Raw, and what that actually means
Most honey on a shelf has been warmed and pushed through a fine filter, which is what makes it pour clear and stay runny for years. Ours skips both steps. It goes from the extractor through a coarse strainer and into the jar, so the pollen stays in and the jar looks cloudy rather than glass-clear.
It will set firm over the months. That is what raw honey does and it is the easiest sign you are holding the real thing. Stand the closed jar in warm water for fifteen or twenty minutes and stir, and it loosens again. Skip the microwave, and do not boil it.
Which size
The 500 g jar is R155, which is R310 a kilo. The 1.5 kg tub is R320, or about R213 a kilo. Two tubs together are R600, which is R200 a kilo and the best price we do. If honey is a staple in your kitchen, the tub pays for itself quickly. If you have not tasted it yet, start with the jar.
Nothing is added and it is never blended with syrup. The taste shifts a little between batches because bees work whatever is flowering that month. Honey that tastes identical in every jar has been blended to hit a specification.
Not suitable for infants under twelve months.
